Turin
Turin (Italien: Torino; Piedmontese: Turin) is a major city as well as a business and cultural centre in northern Italy, capital of the Piedmont region, located mainly on the right bank of the Po River. The population of the city of Turin is 908,000 (2004 census); its agglomeration totals about 1.7 million inhabitants, while its metropolitan area has a population of 2.2 million inhabitants. Turin is well-known as the home of the Shroud of Turin and Juventus FC, headquarters of Fiat and Lancia automobile manufacturers and host of the 2006 Winter Olympics. It has been the capital of the Duchy of Savoy since 1563, then of the Kingdom of Savoy and finally the first capital of the unified Italy.
Travel to Turin
- Sandro Pertini International Airport at Turin
- The Sandro Pertini International Airport at Turin Caselle is situated 16 km from the city centre. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes by car.
- There is a bus service at this airport which is guaranteed every 30 minutes (from early in the morning until midnight) The bus terminal at the airport is located on the Arrivals level by the flights exit. Buses ariving from and departing to the airport can be found in the city centre near Porta Nuova and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 57. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.
- The airport taxi rank can be found on the Arrivals level by the domestic/EU flights exit. The cost of a journey from the airport to the city centre is approximately 30-40 Euro.
- Finally, the GTT Torino-Caselle Airport-Ceres railway provides a convenient link to city centre. The line has two interchange stations in the city: Dora and Madonna di Campagna. The journey takes approximately 20 minutes. Once you have arrived at one of the stations, bus number 11 provides a fast, direct service to Porta Nuova station, another 20 minute journey that will take you into the heart of the city centre. The "Trenibus" single ticket costs only 3,40 Euro and covers the rail journey and the use of GTT public transport in the city centre for 70 minutes.
- Orio al Serio International Airport
- Bergamo Airport (Orio al Serio International Airport) is 45 km northeast of Milan and 183 km northeast of Turin, close to the city of Bergamo. This airport is especially used by budget companies.
- There is a shuttle bus that brings you to the station in Bergamo in 15 minutes. The bus leaves every 30 minutes between 6:12 and 0:15. A single trip ticket costs 1.55 Euro. The most important buses are attended by Autostradale. Tickets are sold at the Autostradale window.
- Bergamo Airport has no direct train connection. Take the shuttle bus to the station in Bergamo (15 minutes).
- Bergamo Airport is along highway A-4 which connects Milan to Venice and Turin. This is a toll road!
- Milano Malpensa
